Pest Profile

Fleas. Home and Yard Cleared.

Fleas do not just live on pets, they live in the carpet, the yard, and the crawlspace. A full flea fix treats all three, not just the dog.

Fleas are a three front war. The adults bite your pets and you. The eggs, larvae, and pupae live in your carpet, bedding, and yard. And for every adult flea you see, there are twenty more in immature stages you cannot. Treating the pet alone fails almost every time. The home and yard have to come along.

Species You May Encounter

Cat Flea

Despite the name, this is the species that infests both cats and dogs in our region. Responsible for over ninety percent of household flea problems.

Dog Flea

Less common than the cat flea but present. Similar biology and treatment.

Human Flea

Rare in modern homes but can occur in heavy infestations or in homes with recent livestock contact.

Sticktight Flea

Attaches to hosts and stays. Common in backyard poultry and wildlife, occasionally on dogs that spend time around chickens.

Signs You Have A Problem

  • Small dark specks (flea dirt) on pet bedding or on your pet
  • Itching and scratching in dogs and cats
  • Tiny red bites on ankles and lower legs
  • Jumping insects visible on light colored carpet or socks
  • Pets recently boarded, groomed, or around new animals

Our Treatment Approach

We treat interior carpet, pet bedding, and upholstered furniture with an adulticide combined with an insect growth regulator (IGR). The IGR breaks the life cycle so the eggs and pupae cannot mature. Outdoor treatment covers shaded yard areas where flea larvae survive. Coordinate with your vet on the pet side for the full solution.

When To Expect Them

Flea pressure peaks late summer and fall, but indoor infestations are year round because carpeted homes are climate controlled. Outdoor larvae survive mild winters in shaded harborage.
