Pest Profile

Mosquitos. Season Long Pressure.

The Ozarks have mosquitos from April to October. Multiple species, multiple biting patterns, multiple disease risks. A yard program works.

Mosquitos in the Ozarks are not one species on one schedule. Aedes mosquitos bite during the day, Culex mosquitos bite at dusk and dawn, and Anopheles species are active through the night. Controlling the yard means treating for all of them, at the times and places they actually rest, not just where they fly.

Species You May Encounter

Asian Tiger Mosquito

Aggressive daytime biter, small with black and white striped legs. Loves backyards, patios, and any small container of standing water. Well established throughout Arkansas and SW Missouri.

Yellow Fever Mosquito

Another Aedes species, also a daytime biter. Not carrying yellow fever here but capable of transmitting other arboviruses. Urban and suburban.

Southern House Mosquito

Culex species, active dusk to dawn, primary West Nile virus vector in our region. Breeds in standing water including bird baths, clogged gutters, and neglected pools.

Common Malaria Mosquito

Anopheles quadrimaculatus, once the malaria vector in the American South. Still common in rural and waterfront areas.

Floodwater Mosquitos

Aedes vexans and related species that emerge in huge numbers after heavy rain flooding low lying ground. Responsible for sudden population explosions.

Signs You Have A Problem

  • Biting mosquitos indoors or on decks and patios
  • Standing water in bird baths, plant saucers, gutters, tarps, or kiddie pools
  • Mosquito larvae (wigglers) in any water source
  • High mosquito pressure near shaded foliage and fence lines
  • Night time whine in bedrooms (Culex species coming through open windows)

Our Treatment Approach

Monthly backpack application to foliage, fence lines, and shaded resting areas where adult mosquitos actually spend their downtime. We also identify breeding sites (standing water) and either eliminate them or treat them with a larvicide. Event pre treatments available with 48 hours notice.

When To Expect Them

Mosquito season runs April through October in our region. Peak biting pressure is typically June through August. Fall activity continues into October before the first hard frosts knock populations back.
